With summer on the horizon, we’re here to report the makeup trends we’re expecting to sizzle all season long.
Summer brings so much to look forward to—like Summer Fridays and longer days. As temperatures rise, cue the return of dewier, light-weight formulas and tried-and-true summer makeup staples like bronzy skin and more color. But what we're really excited about is having an excuse to experiment with our look.
From winged liner and metallic, high-shine shadow to ‘sunset’ hues and glossy skin 'think Pat McGrath', there’s a summer makeup trend for you.
Sunset Colors
Sun-kissed skin is as timeless as it gets, but this year, expect to see sunset colors making a statement on lips and cheeks – whether you’re bronzed or not.
There are no rules, except to draw inspiration from the colors of sunset. Think oranges and fiery reds on your lids, lips, and cheeks.
The sunset colors makeup trend features shades of golden yellow, fiery orange, rich pink, and deep purple to create striking, gradient looks reminiscent of a sunset. Suitable for any occasion, sunset makeup can be bold or subtle.
At MAKE, we recommend Heat Stroke Dewy Gel Cheek Tint in Toasted, a warm light brown, and Baked, a deep chocolate brown, for natural-looking warmth, along with Swelter, Slush, and Inflamed for vibrant cheeks.
Metallic Eyes
In 2023, metallic lids dominated the fall/winter runways. While the 'less-is-more' aesthetic has remained popular in recent years, today's metallic accents and eye looks exude a modern vibe that's just the right amount of bold, as is the case when Chanel and Thome Browne are participating.
Formulated with special treated micas, reflective pearls and conditioning lipids that provide its creamy texture, our highly pigmented, metal-reflecting Multi-Chromatic Eyeshadow is perfect for this. When applied with your finger, Multi-Chromatic delivers a foiled, wet-effect due its unique creamy feel. Available in 12 highly-pigmented shades ranging from metallic neutrals to jewel tones, it’s perfect for achieving this contemporary look.
Glossy Skin
First came glass skin, then came glazed skin. This summer, we're drawing inspiration from the glassy, porcelain look showcased at the 2024 Maison Margiela Artisanal show created by none other than makeup artist Pat McGrath's. While McGrath achieved this viral, ultra-glossy effect with Kryolan Liquid Glass, we're anticipating a trend of even, hydrated, and plump skin this summer.
To achieve this look, we recommend minimal coverage complexion products like our Skin Mimetic Concealer and a super hydrating serum like Subverse, our complexion-enhancing, plumping peptide serum. Formulated with the potent peptide Matrixyl™ Synthe'6™, barrier-strengthening bioferment, hydrating osmolytes, and amino acids, Subverse visibly plumps the skin, restores hydration homeostasis, and improves firmness and elasticity. For an instant, hydrated glow, apply Subverse before your moisturizer and use a tiny bit of concealer to cover any blemishes, dark spots, or redness.
Colorful Winged Eyeliner
Summer is synonymous with color, and that includes makeup. There's no better time than the hot, vibrant season to explore products with bold color payoff.
Inspired by the graphic eyeliner trend popularized by the hit show Euphoria, the modern twist on Priscilla-inspired liquid liner features pops of bright color.
Just in time for summer, we launched Liquid Line Eyeliner, an ultra-precise, high-impact liquid eyeliner available in a variety of bright pastels. The thin, felt-tip pen is user-friendly, even for beginners, making it easy to achieve any look—from a thin, tight line to a bold, graphic wing.
